Mission

To advocate measures beneficial to annuitants and potential annuitants of the Public Service of Canada, the Canadian Forces, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and other Federal Agencies or bodies deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors;

  • To oppose measures inimical to annuitants and potential annuitants;
  • To promote the general welfare of those mentioned above;
  • To inform and assist annuitants and potential annuitants mentioned above with regard to their rights as annuitants;
  • To cooperate with other organizations in furtherance of mutual objectives; and
  • To promote and authorize the establishment of Branches of the Association

Who Are We?

  • National not-for-profit organization founded in 1963
  • Our members are pensioners from the Federal Public Service (including Government agencies/Crown corporations), Canadian Forces and the RCMP
  • Spouses and surviving spouses of pensioners are also eligible
  • Membership in 2007: more than 155,000
  • We have 84 Branches in Canada and one in the United Kingdom

What Are We Doing for Pensioners?

In the pursuit of its goal to protect your benefits and defend your interests, FSNA represents you on many governmental and non governmental committees. 

The following overview of the major committees FSNA is associated with gives the "raison d'être" of these committees and identifies the Association spokespersons.

PENSION

Public Service Pension Advisory Committee

Advises the President of the Treasury Board on matters relating to Public Service pensions. 

Major means for bringing pensioners' concerns to attention of Minister and senior officials.

Canadian Forces Pension Advisory Committee

Advises the Minister of National Defence on matters relating to CF pensions.

Major means for bringing pensioners' concerns to attention of Minister and senior officials.

Public Sector Pension Investment Board Nominating Committee

Nominates candidates for membership on Pension Investment Board. 

Means of ensuring candidates are qualified to manage funds of Public Service, Canadian Forces and RCMP pension plans.

PSHCP

As of June 1, 2007, the Public Service Health Care Plan is run by a not-for profit corporation called the PSHCP Administration Authority, which is managed by a Board of 10 directors charged with overseeing the administration of the PSHCP and of reviewing appeals of decisions on plan members' covergae or claims for reimbursements. A senior-level forum, the Partners Committee, is responsible for plan design changes and cost management strategies.

DENTAL PLAN

Pensioners' Dental Services Plan Board

Responsible for reviewing and advising Treasury Board on design and other issues relating to dental plan including the selection of an administrator. 

Major means of ensuring that the needs of pensioners are properly reflected in plan design and administrative procedures.

SENIORS' GROUPS

Congress of National Seniors' Organizations

The Congress consists of 12 national seniors' organizations, including FSNA. Its main objective is to influence and shape politics and programs on aging through efficient and effective dialogue between seniors' organizations and all levels of government.

Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA)

As an Associate Member of CCMTA, FSNA hopes to further the cause of the aging drivers, particularly those over 65. Eleven FSNA members are involved in projects with their respective regional CCMTA.
