2006 Federal Elections We now have a minority Conservative government. When the elections were called, it was expected that there would be many changes in the way the government was going to do business. FSNA has contacted the Ministers responsible for the issues of importance to the Association: the President of the Treasury Board, the Minister of National Defence, the Minister of Public Safety, the Minister of Public Works and Government Services, the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, and the Minister of Health. FSNA will continue to advocate government action on issues of importance to its members, specifically, and to older Canadians, in general. As with past federal elections, FSNA participated in the election campaign to ensure that all candidates across the country were made aware of issues that concern pensioners from the federal Public Service, the Canadian Forces, the RCMP, retired federally appointed judges, and seniors in Canada. FSNA wrote to the major party leaders to ask for their official position on these issues and posted their responses on this page. FSNA also distributed a Workbook for branches to provide basic information on seniors' issues. This Workbook aims to assist each of our 84 Canadian Branch branches to implement FSNA’s electoral strategy at the local level. To see a sample of the letter sent to party leaders, click here.
