Long-Term Care
Insurance
The first of its kind in Canada, the FSNA's Long-term
Care Insurance (LTCI)* Program was launched in 1999 following
a survey that showed that FSNA members were interested in taking
insurance to offset the expenses incurred as a result of chronic
illness, of injury, or of old age. These expenses are not generally
fully covered by either government plans or the Public Service
Health Care Plan.
Over the years, we have seen the demand for
long-term facility care increase while government funding decreased.
And, promised new federal government assistance for home care
is largely limited to post-acute care, care for the mentally
handicapped and palliative care – not chronic care.In partnership
with Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada and Johnson Inc,
we have developed a Long-term Care Insurance
(LTCI) Program exclusively for FSNA members and their families
that provides comprehensive and affordable financial protection
against the devastating costs of long-term care services. It
is designed to help give you peace of mind and total control
over your care choices.
While the Association will continue to
pressure the Government to improve publicly funded long-term
care services, we encourage you to consider the FSNA LTCI Program
to see how it can help protect your independence and financial
security.
