These are extremely valid points.
To pit one Canadian against another because one has a better pension plan is a sleazy smoke screen, to cover the government’s inadequate provisions to ensure each Canadian is guaranteed a decent retirement income.
The raising of the age of retirement to 67 is not necessary, as Canada has preformed the best of the G8 and we do slowly recover…but it was the Government who did spend us into a hole. I wold love to have made public the exact audits of each project..how the contracts were awarded..if we have to pay for it we might as well know the truth!
CPP is sound and should remain untouched. The provisions of OAS could be more inclusive for al,l guaranteeing pension parity…we can afford this.
What we desperately need are concrete steps to guarantee that our ‘young graduates’ have meaningful jobs, that are secure…perhaps increasing the federal civil service “is” the answer. That way water, food, and immigration standards will be met.
We have already lost too many young brilliant minds to the USA.
We see how the current government uses “Scapegoats”, to keep the publicl living in a state of “fear”. How better to control your constituents than through terror tactics!
The Government thinks that Fear will Motivate Production…here we go again!

For to long the Civil Services, both Provincial and Federal have been perceived as inhibiting free enterprise by an over abundance of under productive bureaucrats living off the avails of the taxpayer when in reality no one, but no one, could begin to catalogue all of the services provided, 24/7, in keeping our society, our lifestyle, health and safety in the status it now is and has been for these many years.
Politicians, Governments and the media would serve the citizenry well if effort was made to portray this working force as it really is but there’s no redeeming value in that for them, is there.

The press releases are very well prepared, and I would hope all branches provide their members with copies of them at their spring AGM’s. It will enlighten FSNA members to know that FSNA is very concerned with Government employee lay offs, which ultimately may impact how our own retiree issues and concerns are handled by Government Departments most of which will encounter staff lay offs. After all, these current employees are our future members, and some could be our Associate members already!
